[ Steve isn't that shocked that Geralt has heard already. Chances are there's been a lot of messages sent back and forth, and the more information that's shared about who ended up where, the better. ]
None, though that's probably only because a lot of the animals seem to have escaped during the quake.
Where did you end up?
[ Somehow, Steve doubts that Geralt was lucky enough to arrive back in Cadens. That only leaves one other option. ]
[ With Sam, in Thorne. Funny how Destiny seems to work. ]
He asked me to exchange notes, as he put it, with you. Are you occupied?
[ Geralt is not, because he's suddenly without a single contract to work on and he has little interest in running errands for the crown. So running errands for Sam it is. ]
[ At least Sam and Geralt are together. Steve knows enough to understand that returning to Thorne is a situation full of baggage and bad memories for them, so he's glad they have each other. ]
Not so occupied that I can't do some exchanging of notes.
[ Remember what he said about the lost animals? He's been roped into helping with that, naturally. ]
[ Daisy. It's a perfectly normal name, and doesn't seem to mean anything to him. He nods to her in greeting and acknowledgment, but that's all. ]
Then it's nice to meet you, Daisy.
[ But right, timelines. That always complicates things, especially when the Snap is taken into account. His expression darkens for a moment, but he doesn't hesitate long before answering. ]
Yep, same here. I think she's a little ahead of me in terms of timeline, but not by much.
[ The events of Westview haven't happened for him yet.
With some care, he asks: ] How about you? [ Was she dusted? Has the Snap even happened for her yet? And how much did Wanda mention about any of that? ]
Give me a couple hours and I'll be there. I have a few horses I need to try and wrangle. Let me know if you have any tips.
[ Steve knows that Geralt doesn't really like talking like this, so the suggestion doesn't surprise him at all. He could invite him to his domain instead, but meeting at Sam's honestly works just as well, and won't be as overwhelming as asking Geralt to come to the middle of the city or to the Compound. ]
Sounds a lot like the outer edges of the Alliance as I'd sort of guessed it was. At this point I'd take it.
[ A thought he was pretty sure he'd next think, but the portal's helped make that a reality. ]
Thorne's as delightful as has been described to me, if you can imagine that. There's a handful of familiar faces I've seen so far and it sounds like the same for you if we've all been shuffled around.
[Daisy notes the way his expression changes, and she wonder's what that is about. Worry begins to worm its way into her mind, but she doesn't ask questions. Not yet anyway.]
2016.
[He might be able to notice the way she seems to be fighting not to ask questions about what's happened since then.]
It's weird, the way we all seem to be coming from different times.
[ Geralt is less inclined to aid the royals and nobles around Thorne, and he's not yet certain whether it would be wise to slip into Nott so soon. He spends the two hours in the library instead, pulling tomes that he would not have found in the Free Cities. Though he doubts there are any secrets laid in these open shelves.
When evening begins to fall, he retreats to his room—then the Horizon. He doesn't enter it often, either, but it serves its purpose. He mounts the motorbike—it's been a while, not counting the dream with Kyle—and rides around the Singularity's crater, pausing briefly to study it. It doesn't look much different in here. Unusual. He'd have expected it to shift with the world outside.
Sam's house is lit by the setting sun, the lake behind it sparkling gold. When Steve arrives, he'll find Geralt on the porch with a beer and his bike by the road. He greets the man with a nod. ]
It's a lot easier to imagine you in a castle than the middle of a farm, but I get it.
[ Even if Claude was no stranger to the atmosphere that existed in Thorne, that hardly meant that he liked it. But Steve is also confident that Claude will handle himself just fine in his new environment. ]
Yeah. I arrived here at the same time as Istredd. Hilda's also here, though I'm sure you knew that already. Garrus, Nadine, and Matt too, and James if you've met him. He's newer.
I'm a little rusty at being in a castle, but I have a feeling it'll come back to me soon.
[ He's grinning to himself just a little with that since - well, it's an understatement all around. One meant to get Steve to smile when reading it despite that they've been looped into yet another round of chaos, though that might be far more worthy of an eye roll. ]
I heard and I'm glad that you're there with her. I don't think I've met James yet but what a welcome to Abraxas. So far I've found Cid, Dion, and Geralt though I know I've seen other familiar faces. Quite a few Summoned from Solvunn ended up here just to add to all of us being shuffled around.
[ That's... a whole lot earlier than him, and two whole years before the Snap. Steve nods, doing his best to school his expression so that she doesn't infer too much from it. ]
That seems to be pretty normal here. For as much as anything like that can be normal, but it's happened to other Summoned too, even people who aren't from the same place as us.
[ He's not sure if that should make them feel better or worse, but given that the summoning spell plucks them from another world, it makes sense that it's toying with time and space by its very nature. ]
2016, though... [ A tense line appears at this brow as he thinks back. ] So around the time of the Sokovia Accords, right?
[ The rest of Steve's day is spent chasing down horses, and he really could have used some of Geralt's tips. He knows how to ride a horse, sure, and he does his best to be gentle and kind with any animal, but that doesn't change how stubborn they are.
If he's a little late, it's because those horses made his life a whole lot harder than it needed to be, but it's fine. They've been returned to their stables now.
Blinking into Sam's domain is an easy task for him these days, and Steve appears by the docks near the lake. As he walks up to the house, it's something of a shock to see Geralt sitting there with a beer like he belongs here. And, well, maybe he does, but the bike is what really puts it over the edge.
Steve moves toward the motorcycle, looking it over with an appraising eye. It's more than just vague curiosity, he seems to be inspecting the brand and model. ]
[The Sokovia Accords. Daisy hadn't thought about that whole thing in a minute, but at the mention of it she remembers having done her own research on it.]
It is.
[She tilts her head slightly, realizing the way he asked that made it seem almost as if they weren't a thing anymore.]
[ It might just make Steve smile, not that he's going to admit to that. ]
I bet it's a little like riding a bike. You never really forget how to do it.
[ Cid, Dion, Geralt. Steve knew about Geralt, and he doesn't know who Dion is, but he makes mental notes all the same, hoping he can keep decent track of who ended up where. ]
Yeah, Wanda is a little shorthanded here so I've been trying to help out. Also, I do know Sam ended up in Thorne too, so you can add him to your list.
[ Since he assumes Claude is keeping one too, mental or otherwise. ]
[ Geralt glances over his shoulder. He's had that machine for two or so summers now. He forgets that it's no doubt a strange sight for Steve, who often meets him in the physical world. Even for him, it still feels a bit foreign to ride, but that it exists solely in this imaginary plane helps with his acceptance of...how it's meant to function. ]
Nadine created it for me. [ Geralt doesn't know much more about it than that, but Steve will probably recognize it's styled after a vintage model. ] Bit faster than a horse.
You might be onto something there. I suppose it's an added bonus if you grew up in a court on top of that since it adds some familiarity.
[ He's less excited about that feeling - not that there's much to be excited about in regards to Thorne's monarchy, aside from this also providing an opportunity to see those he wouldn't be able to otherwise. That's not something he's taking for granted even if he feels the absence of who isn't here as keenly as everything else. Something Steve might be going through too, from the sound of it. ]
That's good to know since I haven't come across him yet, but I'll look for him before too long. It seems there's a good number of Summoned who arrived here first who are back again, at least from those in the Free Cities. We'll have to see what this time here brings and I'm glad you've got Wanda there too.
[ Frankly, Steve's more worried about the people like Sam and Geralt who have been shoved back to Thorne after choosing to get the hell of out dodge years ago. It must be a bizarre feeling, but unfortunately there isn't much he can do from Solvunn.
It looks like Claude's noticed the same thing. ]
Yeah. That almost makes me wonder if this was purposeful in some way, but it could just as easily be bad luck too.
Wanda's made this all a smooth transition for us, even if suddenly being in farmland is pretty strange after living in Cadens for so long.
After everything we've been through here, I can't say I'd be surprised if there was a purpose to it. Then it'd really just be a question of why or maybe better yet: who.
[ Something to puzzle over, certainly, even if he hasn't the slightest idea of how to go about figuring that out until they've all settled into new places a bit more. Then maybe if they're lucky, one of the nations might admit to being behind it since that seems likely. ]
I can imagine not just from the sights of it alone but... well, everything. I could say the same for the castle though I don't think we'll quite get the illusion of being ignored like we have over in the Free Cities.
