As far as I'm aware, destroying the Singularity is still the party line from the Free Cities. But you're right that I don't know all that much about what their reasoning is, since it seems like it could be extremely dangerous not just to this world, but to all of our worlds to do that.
I know Sam has met with Marlo Reiner before and they may have talked about it. If not, we can start to look into it more.
